Stupid bitchface whore

Howdy!

Conversations that happened between my husband and me today:

Me: Ow! fuck it stung me!
Husband: What did?
Me: pointing at the huge wasp on the ground, "That wasp!"
Husband: steps on it. "there"
Me: Inside the kitchen running the palm of my hand under cold water, "ow ow ow.. stupid bitchface whore."
Husband: mixing up baking soda and water into a paste, "who's a bitchface whore?"
Me: The wasp that stingded me! (Yeah I said stingded :-p)
Husband: Oh! okay. *puts baking soda goop on my palm* was the stinger still in there?
Me: No, it was a wasp they bite, plus I felt it with my lips there was nothing stuck in it.
Husband: With your lips?
Me: Yeah your lips are extra sensitive, I would've felt anything sticking in the skin.
Him: oh... well the baking soda will draw out the venom
Me: Wait, most venom and poisons are alkali, we need vinegar.
Him: Vinegar? With your hand full of baking soda? ... That'll be fun. *Tom takes a bottle of cider vinegar out of the cupboard behind him*
Me: holding my hand out over the sink, "okay pour it" *vinegar erupts the baking soda predictably then everything washes away"
Him: Good?
Me: Yeah it doesn't hurt to much anymore either, do you know where the benadryl is? *I take two pills*

Later in the car on the way to get groceries

Me: Jeez, for Christmas I got diabetes, for my birthday I got my period and today I get stung by a wasp. God must really hate me.
Him: Why would god hate you?
Me: Probably because I don't believe in him.
Him: oh.... wait... What?

Well the baking soda vinegar and benadryl did the trick. My hand is sore but there isn't any swelling or itching so far. And I'm not alergic to stings so it should be fine.

And here's a list of my birthday loot!

From my brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Rhonda I got a gift set from bath and body works, Cherry Blossom scented shower gel, body scrub, body butter, body spray and perfume.

From Tom. An antique chinese ginger jar and a Japanese ceramic plate with a ukiyo-e scene of geishas and maikos painted on it.

From my mother and father inlaw, A gift set of pina coloda scented bath goodies with a nylon scrubbie. a large coffee table picture book with more ukiyo-e prints and photos of geisha and maiko. A gift certifigate to get a shampoo cut and style at my favorite hair salon.

From neices and nephew, 7 pairs of pretty earrings and an assortment of nailpolish

From my dad and other inlaws I got various gift cards, including wal-mart and subway.. classy!

From god, PMS, cramps, bleeding, and a lovely wasp sting. Because I don't believe in him.

I also got dinner at my favorite, non-olive garden, Italian resturaunt, and cake and fireworks at my inlaw's house after.

All in all it was a good weekend, except for stupid bitchface and that imaginary guy.

Love and kisses!
Ericka.

The big Three-Oh

Howdy!

I've been lax in updating but there's not been anything to say. My birthday is on Saturday, I'm going to be 30. When I started my journey through adult-land I never thought I'd be where I am now. I thought I would be married, and I am. I thought I would have kids, but maybe working on my thyroid issues will help me reach that goal. I think that because my mother died at the age of 40 I've been living my adult life with a sense of urgency. When I was 19 I almost got married to an abusive asshole. When I hit 25 and still was single and childless I'd felt like I'd hit the wall and wouldn't reach my goals. So perhaps I've finally started to slow down live today, with the future in mind, but not missing out on here and now. I'm feeling very introspective as my birthday draws near I feel like making a list of my life's accomplishments and a list of things I want to do yet. Sort of my own bucket list only not that cheesy. So why not, it's my journal right?

Things I've done

1) Graduated High school
2) Gone to college
3) Dropped out of college
4) Been a nurse
5) Loved and been loved unconditionally
6) Lived in another country
7) Buried a parent
8) Experienced altered states of consciousness, with drugs, alcohol and BDSM.
9) Ruined my health with poor diet choices, smoking, and probably a little genetics too.
10) Lived alone in a place that was my own.
11) Lived with and loved a transgendered woman who was my submissive.
12) Had a poem published.
13) Traveled to many places, including Canada, NY City, and Key West Florida.
15) Spent time in the club scene going to gay bars and circuit parties.
16) Met my husband.
17) Been involved in the BDSM community, attended play parties, practiced bondage, D/s, and S&M from both top and bottom, and started a local BDSM group where I've made many new friends.
18) Got Married.
19) Been in a relationship lasting more than 5 years. (with my husband so 5 years and counting)
20) Turned 30, or at least I will in a couple days.

Things I want to do

1) Have a baby
2) Get healthy
3) Have Gastric bypass surgery.
4) Get into therapy
5) Go back to College
6) Get a "real job"
7) Own a house
8) Travel more, see the west coast, Japan, Scotland, and go to Key West again.

That's really all I can think of for the things I want to do. And the list of things I've done could be a lot more detailed but I think some of the things up there are surprising enough so I'll keep the real shocking stuff to myself for now.

Love and kisses,
Ericka.

My doctor's appointment

My hopes are shattered again. I found out that my thyroid is low so I have to start taking synthetic thyroid hormones. So the doc says he wants me to see what the thyroid stuff does because it will help me loose weight and improve my diabetes numbers. Unfortunately he's not going to give me a recommendation for WLS until "we've tried everything else first" because "gastric bypass surgery has a 5% mortality rate" and supposedly my "situation is not that desperate yet"

So I go back in 6 weeks to have another round of blood work done to see how my thyroid and diabetes is doing and get a pap test. Some how I can see him fucking around with my meds and putting off surgery for months or years. I'm going to be thirty in less than a week and my husband and I what to have kids. I don't have time to fuck around with this doctor. I don't know what I'm going to do. Maybe I'll give this doctor a few more visits then switch doctors. I don't know. Any of you know of a primary care physician in State College pa that isn't anti-wls?

Howdy!

So I'm nosing around on youtube again. Guess what I found! A narrated video of the Rou En Y gastric bypass surgery. In all likely hood this is the surgery that I will have done. Of course there are guts and cutting and stitching and even a little burning and smoke from cauterized wounds in the video so it's not for <strike>pussies </strike>people who are effected by these sights. You've been warned!

<lj-embed id="3" />

How cool is that?

Random memories

Howdy!

When I was in college I took piano and classical voice. Now while I used to be able to sing in "full voice" like an opera singer. I was never able to master playing the piano. My hands are too small, I usually use them to measure things because it's exactly 6 inches from my wrist to the tip of my middle finger. Anyway in memory of the bad old days of plunking my way through "Heart and Soul" I offer this video which made me rofl. Enjoy
<lj-embed id="2" />

</div>

Howdy!

I haven't posed anything lately and I suppose I should. There isn't anything going on to post about though. Couple weeks until I see the doctor again and find out if there is anything wrong with my thyroid gland. And get the results from my A1C. I haven't gone to the lab to have them take the blood yet. Doc said to wait until a few days before my appointment. Tom's going to see his chiropractor on the 11th so I'm going to tag along and get my blood taken then.

My birthday is this month. July 26th. I've asked my hubby to help me get a tattoo this year. I want a jellyfish or a seahorse. Tom's family has a tradition of getting together on a weekend day to celebrate birthdays. Last weekend we had my bro in law, Mike's party at a Chinese restaurant. My birthday is on a Saturday this year. I need to decide where to have the "party." This is tricky because half of us are diabetic and Mike had a stroke in April so the menu is a big consideration. Maybe I'll say fuck it and have my birthday get together at Olive Garden }:-)

Love and kisses,
Ericka

Still Alive

Howdy!

Hey folks, I'm still around, just nothing interesting going down. My finger is healing up pretty good, the skin around the area that's going to be the scar is puckering and I can tell that once it's healed and scared I'm going to have to do some bending and stuff to get that joint to flex normally. They also have creams that are supposed to help deal with scars so I may try some of that, even if it doesn't work it can't hurt right? It'll really suck if I can't bend that joint the full amount and make a fist. Only time will tell.

Okay, what the heck is up with the weather? Last week it was all beautiful days and nice cool evenings great for sleeping then this past weekend BAM it's "Hotter than a half fucked fox in a forest fire" (to borrow my fathers vernacular) There was a small fireman's festival in Huntington county and our pyrotechnic guild was hired to do a fireworks display on Saturday. We went up friday to set up racks of tubes. (tube are basically plastic pvc pipes that the firework or "bomb" is shot out of) That was hell. We were in the middle of a farmers field up ontop of a hill with no shade at all. He had beef cattle near by so you can imagine the smell in the heat. And he has peacocks, they're gorgeous but damn they make some horrible squawks. Hauling racks and sandbags in that heat we were guzzling water and bone tired at the end of the day. Then all sweaty and grubby we went out for chineese, yum! Wonder why the hostess gave us the table hidden away from everyone else? heehee.

Saturday was the day of the show so we schleped back out to the farm to drop* the shells after Tom's dad went and picked them up. Even though our guild is ATF licensed we don't have our own magazine so when we do a show we order the shells in advance and pick them up the day of the show so we don't have to worry about storing them. It was still hot that day but we set up a tent so we could squib** in the shade. Oh, and awesome part, our show had 3 8" shells and 2 12" shells. In the picture the 12 is the biggest one and the 8's are the second biggest.

The only size bigger they make are 16" but those aren't technically legal so there you go.

So the work was hot and horrible. After dark the mosquitoes thought I was a moveable feast but we got prime seats, the fireworks were actually exploding directly over head of us even though were were a safe distance away. All in all it was pretty darn fun but the weather could've been much much better.

* dropping a shell means to load it into it's tube.
** Squibbing is when you insert an electric match into the lift charge of the shell so it can be fired electrically from a distance.

Howdy!

So today was the big day, I took the dressing off my finger for the first time since the doctor at the ER put it on. I got some very bad photos with my web cam if you want to have a look see, they're behind the cut.

Here I am soaking my finger in water trying to get the surgi foam to loosen from the scab. That dirty looking stuff in the middle of the foam pad is my dried blood, nice eh?

Here it is after the foam finally dissolved enough to come loose from the scab, that's the wet foam on my other finger if you couldn't tell. Stupid shitty web cam.

Here's a close up pic of the scab itself, pretty yucky. I'm wearing dark blue nail polish it's hard to distinguish anything in these pictures but my digital camera died a slow and noisy death.

And so that's how it goes with my finger. Hopefully after a few days of neosporin and bandages I'll have a nifty scar to show. I just hope that that joint will bend again after it scars. :-(

Love and kisses,
Ericka

I am a dumb ass

Howdy!

Well that is the last time I ever claim a day as a success before it's over. I just got back from the emergency room, fun fun. I make candles as a hobby. And tonight, before bed, I was trimming up the bottom of a pillar candle when I sliced a chunk out of the side of my left index finger. After the wound bled through two gauze pads I decided to go to the hospital and get it taken care of. The worst part is that I some how managed to slice a piece of my flesh off, it's about half an inch long, quarter of an inch wide, and I can't find it. There was no flap of skin hanging on I sliced it totally off and it's now lost somewhere in my apartment. I have a horrible idea that some day a person will get murdered in this apartment after we've moved out and some CSI will find my little chunk of skin and I'll become a murder suspect. Of course I do have an active imagination.

Anyway I'm fine, no stitches, there wasn't enough flesh to stitched closed. I got a tetanus shot and a dressing that I can't remove for two days. Though I have to say that this wound foam stuff that they use as a dressing is awesome stuff, it absorbs blood and fluids while helping the blood clot and stop the bleeding. No pain or even throbbing at the moment. But my arm is going to be achy for a few days from the stupid tetanus booster. Of course I had to get the funny doctor too, but what do you expect from a guy who's working in an emergency room at 1 am. Anyway it's almost 4 now and I'm tired. G'night folks.

Love and kisses from the chronically if not terminally stupid,
Ericka.

Father's day is coming up.

Howdy!

There isn't much going on today. I'm struggling with my radio station at the moment because the host has had a server failure. It's an issue of hardware failure so it 's going to take awhile to get fixed. In the mean time I'm trying to work something out with another guy who's hosted me before, thank goodness I use a redirect as the main listening address so my listeners can find me wherever I'm hosted. If you want to listen to what I am playing (whenever I'm back on the air) this is what you have to do. Open up winamp, windows media player, iTunes, or whatever you have that will play streaming audio then, file>open url> type in http://lost.allfurradio.com press enter and let your ears be soothed by the dulcet tones of my radio station. I play mostly classic rock. Mostly being about 65%-70% the rest is dance, grunge, 90's stuff etc. I make sure that the library on my music broadcaster is stocked with only the best music I can find. (That's why it's mostly classic rock!)

So Father's day is coming up and every year I have the same struggle of what to get for my dad. He lives about 300 miles from me so taking him out for dinner is out, so that leaves me with sending him something. I always think that giving a gift card from store X is a tacky gift to give someone you know. If you're some random person who I work with and you're having a special event (wedding, baby, brithday whatever) then a gift card is a great idea. Not for my dad though, it seems too distant and un-thoughtful (if I may make up my own word) My dad has a few interests, like putting together model kits, reading, and the civil war. He's really really into the civil war, he wrote his own book, done some reenacting, and been to every battlefield turned state park that exists. So the obvious choice would be to get him something Civil war themed, right? Yeah... he's already got it all. And if there is something he doesn't have I don't know about it. I got him a model kit for his birthday in March so that's not a good idea. And I suck at picking out books he'd like so that's not a good idea either.

So I decide to do a google search for fathers day gift ideas and get some interesting ones, my dad has a sweet tooth and Hershey is offering personalized chocolates, there's always cookies, or gift boxes of retro candy, however those things are always way over priced and this year was no exception. Realizing I've got a few days to make up my mind I give up and come read my LJ friends page. And what do I find? flemco has posted an entry about the closing of Sharper Image stores everywhere. Ah-ha! Victory is mine! Cool gadgets that are usually way over priced now slashed to move, right? Yeah.. not really. I browsed their online store and wasn't impressed with the deals so I went to the discount page and picked these for my dad he loves these and has a pair like this that he picked up at walmart years ago. I think this is going to be a good gift for him. Just the other day when we were talking on the phone he mentioned that these days his feet hurt after he gets home from work. So this gift will be quite thoughtful and useful and not generally something he'd splurge on for himself. (and for my dad 20 bucks for footwear is a splurge)

So this year's fathers day gift is in the bag and if I get my stream hosting straightened out to day will be a great success, awesome sauce.

Long time no post!

Howdy!

So I was forced to be offline for a few days because of my previously mentioned plumbing issues. The plumbers finally showed up on Friday. I say finally because they told us "No later than 2pm" they showed around 4:30. Anyway they ended up taking the toilet off the floor turning it on it's back and trying to run a pipe snake up through the bottom to no avail. Seems whatever was clogging it up wouldn't be budged. In the process of trying to clear it we found a partial bar of soap and a bus token in there. I've come to the conclusion that my cat must be knocking things off of the bathroom sink into the toilet, that's the only explanation I can come up with, especially for the bar of soap. The bus token is anybody's guess. I've never used one and it was only recognizable to me because my husband has one he uses for a keychain, they're distinctive because they are goldish in color (brass maybe?) and have a triangle shaped hole in them. The one from the toilet was corroded and nasty so it may have been in there since the previous tenants here.

The plumbers tell me that they'll have to replace the toilet and need to get authorization from the landlord. They call and call to no avail. And they have to leave for another job, they shrug and tell us sorry. They can't hook the toilet back up either because they damaged the water supply line while taking it out. So the toilet that was partially functional before can't be used at all now. I contact my husband who was at work and have him come get me and I go back to work with him so I'll have access to a bathroom. Luckily he works until midnight at the university and it's just him and his very nice boss there at night so it was cool for me to hang there. We stop here after his job and there is a message on the machine from the landlord, he's sending someone to put in a new toilet at 9:30 Saturday morning. It's just after midnight friday night and we have to decide if we want to wait 9 hours plus how ever long it takes to install the toilet before we have a functional bathroom again.

I'll cut out the rest of the story to save you, dear reader, from hearing about us debating over whether we should pee in our bathtub in the middle of the night or drive to the closest gas station, and dealing with my landlords toilet installer guy. But now we've got a new toilet and are feeling civilized again. Though the new toilet is one of those low flow numbers, (do they even make the old non-low flow kind anymore?) so it takes two flushes to rid it of a large, erm... load. It's supposed to be environmentally kind since it uses less water I suppose that's true if you're doing a number 1 but I have my doubts if the water savings in the long run are significant since it takes more water to flush down a number 2 than the old standard toilets. I bet if there is a net water savings it isn't by much.

Good news and bad news.

Howdy!

Well I had my doctors' appointment today. With good news and bad news. My blood pressure was back to normal yay! My weight was down only half a pound since my last appointment with my previous doctor over a month ago, BUT it turns out that one of the medications that I take for diabetes causes water retention and, after looking at my legs and squeezing my ankles, the doctor thinks that I am holding about 15lbs of water. So he's changing that medicine. Hopefully that means I'll be lighter when I go back in July.

The medicine I take for depression (Wellbutrin) has a side effect of causing anxiety, so that's why I thought my anxiety attacks were escalating, we decided to keep that med but to change the times I take it and to make my anxiety medication (Klonipin) permanent. We're keeping the Wellbutrin because I have horrible issues with SSRI medications (Like prozac, Efexor, lexapro, et al) issues bad enough that a daily panic attack is an acceptable alternative.

Also on the good news side my doctor thinks I am a likely candidate for gastric bypass surgery (yeehaww!) Bad news is he wants me to try doing the stuff he suggests first. Which is not unexpected, he has no reason to believe that I have already tried everything considering he doesn't have my complete medical history yet. And even more potential bad news, once (if) he recommends me for the surgery I should expect to spend 6 months jumping through hoops for the bariatric clinic that we decide on. Which he says will either be Hershey Medical Center in Hershey PA which is roughly 100 miles from here (98.4 mi – about 1 hour 57 mins google maps) or at Geisinger Health System in Altoona PA which is only about 40 miles away (42.3 mi – about 59 mins google maps) with those as clinics as best choice it's going to be quite expensive in gas. Though I'm not going to jinx myself I have no idea how often I would have to travel back and forth to these places during that 6 month period. And I don't even know if my doctor will make the recommendation even though he thinks that I am "probably a good candidate for gastric bypass surgery" For now let's say I am cautiously optomistic , though I would be lying if I said I didn't have my hopes up.

So I go back on July 15th, 11 days before my birthday, getting a recommendation for gastric bypass surgery would be the greatest birthday present ever. But I have to stay realistic. It may be a year or more before I actually go under the knife. On the bad news side I have to go in a few days before my appointment and give blood. Another Hemoglobin A1C, Lipids (Cholesterol LDL HDL Triglycerides) and my first Thyroid test in many years. Which is surprising considering how big I am, but I suppose thyroid isn't one of the first things doctors think of when presented with a fat patient these days. If I remember correctly my thyroid hormone levels have always been border line low* so maybe they've finally dropped low enough that I can get synthroid and shed some weight that way.

Wish me luck!
Love and kisses,
Ericka

*Hypothyroidism is caused from decreased production of thyroid hormone which results in decreased metabolism.

I've had an interesting day today. Well interesting if you have an interest in plumbing issues. Yeah. Our upstairs toilet decided to clog up and over flow. That in itself isn't too bad, but unfortunately our bathroom is right above our kitchen and some how all that water found an opening through the floor and dripped into the kitchen ceiling. We have a drop ceiling in the kitchen with a fluorescent tube light in the center, the light is recessed into the ceiling and there is a plastic panel below it to defuse the light http://images.jupiterimages.com/common/detail/27/07/23110727.jpg Looks like that one. Well the water dripping down collected on that cover causing it to sag lower and lower until it popped out of the ceiling splashing the entire kitchen with yucky water and braking into sharp pieces. Of course I didn't know this was happening until I heard the crash because I was upstairs dealing with the toilet and mopping up the floor.

Long story short the bathroom is dry and thank goodness we have a carpet shampooer because the carpet in the hallway outside the bathroom was saturated, it's dry now. The kitchen is cleaned up and the dripping has stopped. Though the toilet still isn't flushing right and I have no idea what to do about the kitchen ceiling. I'm going to try to get in touch with the landlord tomorrow after my doctors appointment and hope he will send a plumber. My landlord has been trying to sell this place for nearly a year now and has hired and fired a property manager, it's not a good time for this stuff to happen. Then again when is a good time?

Love and kisses,
Ericka.

Happy Tuesday

Howdy!

Nothing really going on today. Tom (my husband) was waiting for a call from the dentist hoping he could squeeze in or they would have a cancellation but no luck there, he'll have to wait for his regular appointment to get his broken tooth taken care of. I have an appointment with a new doctor on Thursday. Now that I have health insurance through Tom's work I had to switch doctors. I picked one at random from the list of providers. The doctor Tom usually goes to couldn't get me in until September wtf is that about? I made an appointment with a guy named Dr Adams. The woman who called to "pre-register" me over the phone gave me a different name (that I don't remember) I guess there are several GP's in that practice so who knows who I will get to see. I just really hope I won't have to fight with him tooth and nail over this gastric surgery thing. The insurance I have will pay for it if my GP will refer me to a surgeon. I figure if this doctor won't make the referral I'll just find a new doctor.

Health care in this country is just like a luxury service industry. If a doctor is going to charge $75 or more for 15 mins of his/her time then I'm damn well going to get the service that I want. Don't get me wrong I don't think that people should be able to dictate to the doctors when they have no idea what they are asking for, but I was a nurse I have, at least, a basic understanding of what's going on with my body and how to fix it. I know that if I have gastric weight loss surgery I'm looking at some serious risks here. Malnutrition, death on the operating table, stomach and digestion troubles of all kinds. I realize I'll probably be taking nutritional suplments for the rest of my life. And I will still have to watch calories and get plenty of exercise. But the benifitis out weigh the risks by far for me. I'm not yet 30 and I already have high blood pressure and type 2 diabeties. I've tried many diets, nutri-system, south beach, 3 different ones given to me by doctors and dietitians, even fad diets like the cabbage soup diet and the 900 calorie diet. These just don't work for me. If I want to live to be 40 this is pretty much my last option. I've seen studies that show how patients who have had gastric surgery have had nearly immediate results in regards to blood sugar levels, even before they see weight loss results.

Now that I have insurance that will pay for this procedure I will get it. I will do everything my doctor asks to insure I can get this done. First step, find a doctor that can listen to me and doesn't completely shun the idea of bariatric surgery. Wish me luck with my appointment Thursday!

Love and Kisses,
Ericka

Day 1, my first post

Welcome to my journal!

Day one post one. I suppose I should state a purpose or a mission statement or something tacky here but in reality this journal is going to be a dull read. I intend this journal to be a day to day account of my life now. I got married a month ago on April 25th, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in December 2007, and my current mission in life is to find a doctor who will work with me as I try to get gastric weight loss surgery.

I'm going to be 30 this year, in July. My goals now are to lose weight, get healthy, have a happy marriage, and have a baby. Oh, and to post to my journal every day that I am online. This journal will always be open to read and comment. And I will friend back anyone who friends me. Though I suspect it will be a dull and unpopular journal.

love and kisses,
Ericka
